Enjoyed

"Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review"I’ve enjoyed this story in a sort of twisted way. Both main characters were flawed and insecure, the heroine was immature and irresponsible (yes, ignoring the symptoms your child shows after a severe fall, only because you don’t want to face the doctor, is really motherly), the tortured hero fighting his demons and his sense of failure as a physician and seeking redemption and trying to avoid patients (!) because he’s afraid of failing. So, Olivia and Sawyer are not the politically correct, perfect characters we usually come across in these stories. Having access to their flow of thoughts makes them quite believable, although Olivia turned out to be an unsympathetic heroine, resentful, a bit dumb and ungrateful (by the end she melts a little). Not relatable, but quite realistic… and irritating. As for Sawyer, I love a tortured hero, but because the complete dimension of his grief is only revealed in the last part of the story, his behavior as a depressed, reluctant doctor sometimes seems a bit erratic. The self-flagellation was raw and his suffering poignant. I thought his need for atonement in his role as the prodigal brother was a bit exaggerated and Sam’s expectations too unyielding. But I really liked to watch the healing of the troubled doctor in the ranch, among unfriendly cowboys, and hesitantly learning to provide medical care for a small community.I would have liked to have seen some aspects more developed, namely the couple chemistry (or lack thereof) and their past story, but enjoyed the setting, the ranch life and work and the horses, the characters (Everett and Liza are a great older couple and great characters; Nick is a fantastic kid), and how the author is constantly redefining family and familial bonds.

Can you ever come home again? With the third book in her Kansas Cowboys series Leigh Riker brings us Sawyer's story. He's suddenly back at the Circle H after years away and struggling to see if he fits in there anymore. The overall tone of the story is forgiveness ... it's hard to do, and easy to refuse but powerful motivators can guide even the most hard-headed person into giving it a try. Olivia is the perfect example ... she wasn't easy to like. She came off as being a fairly cold and rigid person when she thought someone had done her wrong, but love and experience shows her the path to easing her heart. A sweet story!Sawyer McCord rode off into the sunset of his family ranch in Kansas many years ago and appeared to hardly ever look back. He distanced himself from friends and family alike to take medical care into destitute parts of the Himalayas. Now fleeing from the heartache of tragedy that struck his home away from home, he's back on the Circle H trying to see if he still fits in. Is he still that doctor that he wanted so much to be, or should he just settle in and enjoy being a cowboy again?Olivia Wilson is far from happy to see Sawyer arrive back at the ranch. She's still holding a grudge for his part in a tragedy that occurred there all those years ago. As she spends time around him and sees the pain in his eyes, she reaches out to find out what happened that has him so tortured. Will she be able to help him find peace with the past and look forward to a future?

One of the Kansas Cowboys series, in which we are introduced to Sawyer McCord, recently returned from overseas where he served as a doctor in the Himalayas. He's hurting badly and questioning continuing as a doctor, but being home is no real help. He's been accused of having run from his responsibilities there, too. Also introduced is Olivia, the ex-wife of Sawyer's twin brother, Logan. As if that is complication enough, Sawyer has always had a thing for Olivia. One reason he left home was Logan's marriage to Olivia. Now that she's divorced, is there a chance they could get together again? Or maybe not. Her focus is on her son and attempting to make her antique business succeed in the face of the bank's refusal to give her a loan to expand. How these flawed and hurting characters get together takes a meandering path, fraught with all manner of family-related angst.

This is the first book I’ve read by Leigh Riker and I cannot wait to get my hands on more. This is Sawyer and Olivia’ story and it will keep you reading until the very end. Sawyer is having issues in deciding whether he wants to continue being a doctor or not after a heartbreaking loss or even if he wants to stay on the ranch or go back to his little remote clinic halfway around the world. Olivia is struggling on being a good mom and trying to do what’s right for her and her child. There are several hard decisions both need to make to find a peaceful, happy life.Thank You for a great story!

I have been wanting to read some Heartwarming from Harlequin, I thought it might be similar to Hallmark movies and it was. These are nice clean romances with an intriguing plot and a lot of meat in such a short book.I loved the history these two characters shared and the rekindling of an old romance.

Part of the Kansas Cowboy series. Sawyer returns from his clinic abroad to the family place finding he must redeem the past and his spirit.Good book, characters and story line.Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.

This story will keep you turning the pages. Can Sawyer forgive himself for a medical misdiagnoses? Can other family members move beyond the pain of mistakes in their past?I received an advanced reader copy. My review is my own opinion.
