Beautifully illustrated, interesting story about how a Diplodocus longus came from the Utah desert to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The book works well as an introduction to the many jobs involved in the process, from the paleontologists and museum curator, to the excavators, movers, preparators, welders, riggers, exhibits team and even cleaners. Although it begins with a two page spread on the life, death and fossilization of the dinosaur, I was disappointed that the first 145 million years received so little coverage compared to the period from the fossil's discovery in 1923 until its final display in the Smithsonian.
I asked the title to my class.How did the dinosaur get to the museum?One child said, "Walked?"Once we started reading how it go there, it became so compelling that we have been reading it in pieces over a few days.What great language and vocabulary.What a great idea.I recommend it. It's a long read for primary but definitely worth the time.
The book came covered in dirt and sticky material of which I am unsure of the source. It's a gift for our daycare class - disappointed :(
This was a gift for my 5-year old granddaughter. She likes science and related topics. The text seemed appropriate for her age and interests.

A good story and very nice illustrations. Very nice quality book. Nice way to keep science interesting, fun for my daughter.
This is a great book for children. It teaches about the process from finding the fossils until they are presented in the museum for viewing. I used it as a reading source for teaching reading. All children love dinosaurs and so they were very interested in the book.
