Suzanne M. Burden holds an M.A. in Theological Studies from Grace Theological Seminary. For years, she has provided a variety of publishers and ministries with marketing and content, including contributions to the Hope in the Mourning Bible, the Starting Point Bible, and the new NIV Women’s Devotional Bible. Suzanne resides with her husband David in Indiana. She blogs regularly at suzanneburden.com. Carla D. Sunberg is president of Nazarene Theoogical Seminary. She earned her PhD in historical theology from the University of Manchester and, along with her husband, served thirteen years as a missionary in the former Soviet Union. Carla is coauthor of Reclaiming Eve: The Identity and Calling of Women in the Kingdom of God. Jamie A. Wright is a former missionaries’ kid and a pastor’s wife based out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. As a woman who has often served, by accident or necessity, as a speaker and leader in ways that may not have traditionally been acceptable in conservative churches, I was eager to read this book. I came away from it with a bit more understanding of how to justify my actions based on Biblical narrative and scripturally based ideas. I did, however, find it challenging to connect with and follow the multiple narrators. Perhaps summarizing each chapter or offering an overall outline would help readers to be more able to come away with more clarity.
This book is helping me look at Eve--and myself--with new eyes. The authors have tapped into a lot of shame, fear, and bewilderment I've harbored about what, exactly, the Genesis narrative means about my womanhood. I'm discovering than rather than a temptress or sinner, I'm in a long line of women called to be "strong powers" in service of God.
Love the book...love the authors!
Good read - very encouraging. Elementary principals in the later chapters. Really enjoyed the parts about "reclaiming Eve" in the opening chapters.
I highly recommend this inspirational book. I learned many new aspects of Eve...she was such more than just a help mate. I hope these authors continue writing more great reads!
